Norlin Underground Café is a cooperative effort between the University
Libraries and Housing & Dining Services. Operated by Housing & Dining
Services, Norlin Underground Café features snacks, fair-trade coffee,
study materials, and a snappy new look.
Norlin Underground Café in
Norlin Library made its debut on April 12, 2004. It is located one flight
below the west entrance on the first floor west, up the hall from the circulation
desk. The study area is designated Norlin Underground / Hughes Hotspot.
“This
coffee shop is in response to repeated requests from students for
a study space with coffee service available to it,” said Scott
Seaman, Libraries Associate Director for Administrative
Services.
The former Map Library site was recreated into a
more relaxed area that permits talking and coffee drinking. Funds
from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute were used to renovate the study
room. The space features a wireless network and is also used as
an art gallery and a venue for talks and other events.
