Update to Changes in the Norlin Computer Labs

May 6, 2008 Major Changes will be coming to the Norlin Third Floor Computer Labs in 2009

  1. For now, the labs will continue to operate as usual.
  2. The Mac and PC Labs will be integrated with the Norlin Learning Commons to be located on the first floor of Norlin in the area now occupied by the Reference Department.
  3. The space formerly occupied by Reference will be converted into the Norlin Learning Commons -- open 24 hours a day -- complete with state-of-the-art computers, individual and group study areas, instruction space, video production space and a coffee shop.
  4. The Mac Lab will be redesigned, remodeled and converted into a dedicated Graduate Student Study Room.

Information Technology Services (ITS) supports two computing labs housed in Norlin Library on the third floor equipped with both Apple and PC computers, details below. Use of computers is restricted by campus password and IdentiKey. The Macintosh computing lab and the Adaptive Technology lab are located in Room N310. A classroom is located in N310B. The PC (Statistics) lab is located in M350. Operating hours for the labs are consistent with the hours of the Norlin Library building.

The labs are staffed with student advisors and one full time lab coordinator. Advisors are available in the Macintosh lab during operating times. There are no advisors available in the PC (Statistics) lab. Users who use the PC (Statistics) lab and need help should go to the Macintosh lab for advising help.

HAL9000 : MGM/WB : c 1968The Macintosh lab has 93 Macintosh G5 iMacs (iMac Intel Duo 2.0GHz 20"), four HP LaserJet printers, one which is an UNIX queued printer. There is also one workstation with a regular monitor and keyboard that is wheelchair accessible.

The classroom has 17 Macintosh G5 iMacs and one HP LaserJet printer. Instructors need to call 303-492-7778 well in advance to reserve the classroom. Reservations for the current month are posted in the classroom. When the classroom is not reserved, the room is open to regular users, who are required to be out of the classroom 15 minutes prior to the start of a scheduled class.

The Adaptive Technology Lab, located in N310, is intended for vision impaired/blind users and people with different physical handicaps which restrict them from typing and is wheelchair accessible. The lab has a NEC SuperScript printer, a black and white scanner, one PC and one large monitor. There is a speech synthesizer that works in conjunction with a screen access program to provide a voice output interface. A screen enlargement program is also available which magnifies anything on the screen. Any questions should be referred to Disability Services, Allen Wood, 303-735-4836.

The PC (Statistics) lab located in M350 has 46 Dell Optiplex GX620 (P4 3.4GHz, 2.0GB RAM) computers, three LaserJet printers. One workstation with a regular monitor and keyboard is wheelchair accessible.
