Construction & Maintenance

Norlin Library

West Entrance Work will recommence on May 13.

A waterproof membrane under the west patio began March 23rd and temporarily finished May 8. The week after Commencement, some of the sandstone pavers will have to be taken out again for some final detailing.

Second Floor

West Lobby Work will begin on May 13 and will last at least through July.

Plans include removal of the tile at the west entrance and the floor at the bottom of both stair wells. It will be replaced with Terrazzo tile. The lobby will have a glass entry with doors much like the existing doors to the north and south. This area will include built-in display cases and if possible touch-screen equipment to enhance way-finding.

The first phase however will be on the south side, in the hallway leading from Security to R&I, the old Science Reference area.  A glass storefront doorway will be installed from this hallway, between engaged columns, into the M210 Conference room.  M210 will not be a Conference Room this summer but a new access point for Circulation.

Work in the Lobby itself will not begin until May 22 when a temporary wall made of wood and plastic sheeting will go up between the West Entrance and the Circulation Desk.

Late May and early June will be times that this project will be most noisy.  The contractors plan to keep at least one West Entrance door accessible at all times.  This will usually be the south emergency door off the patio, but sometimes it will be the north or maybe main entrance.  If you enter the west doors, sometimes you may have a more circuitous path to your destination.

Norlin Neighborhood

The Ekeley project will begin the week of May 13, creating more vehicular traffic on the west side—this project will last 14 months; and construction will begin on the Colorado Avenue intersection utility project. This project will last all summer at that location, moving up the sidewalk along the south side of Norlin.
