Electronic Collections & Assessment Librarian, Collection Development

The University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries seeks an energetic and motivated librarian to participate in the building, assessment, and management of the Libraries’ collection with particular emphasis on electronic resources.  This is a tenure-track position reporting to the Faculty Director for Collection Development.  Working in collaboration with colleagues, bibliographers, and relevant committees, this position identifies and analyzes collection metrics to broadly inform collection management and purchase decisions. This position also facilitates the licensing, management, evaluation, and promotion of the Libraries’ growing collection of electronic resources and open access content. In addition, this position participates in special projects and scholarly communication initiatives. The successful candidate may also assume bibliographer duties in an area of the candidate’s expertise.  Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

 

Requirements
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school; minimum one year’s experience working with an electronic resources management module such as Innovative Interfaces’ ERM product; experience collecting and acquiring electronic resources; demonstrated experience with collection assessment tools and practices; evidence of strong Web and computer applications skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; potential for research and scholarly/professional achievement.

 

Desirable Qualifications
Experience working with vendors and publishers; demonstrated familiarity with openURL linking syntax; demonstrated interest in and understanding of the management of networked information resources in libraries; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative service environment; experience or familiarity with scholarly communication and institutional repositories; knowledge of the University of Colorado collections and electronic resources.

 

Appointment and Salary
The successful candidate with demonstrated accomplishments in research and creative work will be appointed as a full-time assistant professor on tenure track. A successful candidate with promise in research but lacking an established scholarly record will be appointed as a senior instructor (non-tenure track) for two years, with promotion to the tenure track and the rank of assistant professor upon a successful review. Starting salary range will be $42,000 to $47,000. Benefits include 22 working days vacation, 10 paid holidays, liberal sick leave, University group health care plan, group life insurance, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.

Electronic Collections & Assessment Librarian, Collection Development

 

Position Summary
The Electronic Collections and Assessment Librarian is a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor or senior instructor. Under the general direction of the Faculty Director for Collection Development, primary duties include developing methodologies for collection analysis of print and non-print resources; compiling and analyzing relevant library and university data to assist in setting collection priorities; reviewing licenses and managing license records and archival rights; managing the openURL link resolver; working with publishers and vendors on trials, renewals, and access issues. Additional duties may include bibliographer assignments, consortia activities, and scholarly communication initiatives.

 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Develops ongoing methodologies to evaluate print and non-print holdings using a variety of data sources such as COUNTER statistics, circulation, and vendor data.

  2. Analyzes data relative to academic and research areas of focus for collection building and management.

  3. Reviews usage and budget data as applicable for consortia opportunities and decision support.

  4. Provides initial review of licenses, manages license records and tracks archival rights for electronic resources.

  5. Manages the openURL link resolver and implements new linking capabilities.

  6. Works with bibliographers to initiate and evaluate trials and provides general collection development support for bibliographers.

  7. Communicates with publishers and vendors on university branding, user interfaces, and access issues.

  8. Participates in special projects, consortia activities, scholarly communication initiatives.

  9. May assume bibliographer duties, including fund management and approval plans, and performs other duties as assigned.

  10. Keeps abreast of emerging technologies related to collection development and electronic resources.
