Temporary Government Information Librarian
Position Announcement
The temporary Government Information Librarian participates as a member of the Government Publications Library team in the provision of instructional programs and reference and information services. The person in this position will be responsible for reference, instruction, and Web maintenance for the Government Publications Library. The Government Publications Library at the University of Colorado at Boulder is a depository for the State of Colorado, the federal government, the United Nations, and the European Union. The library also has extensive collections of materials from international agencies such as the World Bank, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the United Nations Environment Programme. In addition to providing specialized reference and instruction for government information, the person in this position will participate in the Research Desk, a combined service point for all departments housed in Norlin Library. This position reports to the head of the Government Publications Library.
Requirements
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school completed or in progress, a commitment to teaching and the library’s instructional role in undergraduate education, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, strong interpersonal skills, and effective oral and written communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience or coursework with government information, proficiency with html coding or Dreamweaver, proficiency with Office 2007, and the ability to load/troubleshoot software applications. Experience with Web 2.0 applications such as blogs, wikis, and IM.
Appointment and Salary
The successful candidate will be appointed for one year as a temporary full-time (12 month) lecturer or instructor with the possibility of renewal. Anticipated start date is June 1, 2008. Salary will be $36,000. Benefits include 22 working days vacation, 10 paid holidays, liberal sick leave, and the option of participating in the University group health care and group life insurance plans.

Position Summary
The temporary Government Information Librarian is a faculty position reporting to the faculty director of the Government Publications Library. Duties include general and specialized reference, classroom teaching, departmental and program liaison activities, maintenance of the Government Publications Library website, and participation in special initiatives and projects. The University of Colorado at Boulder is committed to providing a safe and productive learning and living community. Background investigations include reference checks, a criminal history record check, and when appropriate, a financial and/or motor vehicle history.
Responsibilities
- Provide reference services at public service desks, including occasional nights and weekends, and answer electronic reference queries.
- Instruct students, faculty, and other patrons in the use of research tools for government information.
- Assist in the provision and promotion of library instruction for government information.
- Participate in the Research Desk, a general reference service, expanded reference services (in-depth research consultations by appointment), and virtual reference services.
- Prepare and update instructional Web pages and guides and other resources as needed or as requested by the faculty director of the Government Publications Library.
- Post entries to the Government Publications blog.
- Assist in the maintenance of workstations configured to access core CD-ROM products.
- Recommend titles for purchase for the Government Publications Library’s collection.
- Provide monthly, annual, and other reports as requested by the faculty director of the Government Publications Library.
- Participate in a team-oriented environment and contribute to the continuing development of library personnel.
- Participate in the collegial administration of the Government Publications Library and perform duties as assigned by the faculty director.
