Metropolitan Museum of Art - Timeline of Art History

The American Institute of Architects.
The International Architecture Database - this database for architecture, originally emerging from records of interesting building projects from architecture students, has become the largest online database about worldwide architects and buildings from past to present. This database includes over 13,000 built and unrealized projects from various architects and planners. The architecture of the 20th century is the main theme of this database. You can create free user account for advanced searches.
Cities and Buildings Database, University of Washington Libraries
This database contains over 10,000 digitized images of buildings and cities culled from all historical periods and from all over the world. Search by architect, location, building name, etc.
This web site is closely associated with Architecture Week, the leading online magazine for architecture. The site includes timeline of architects from 1400-2005 and a timeline of buildings from 3000 BCE to 2005. It contains indices of buildings, architects, and locations along with a great search engine.
Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER): These collections document achievements in architecture, engineering, and design in the United States and its territories through a comprehensive range of building types and engineering technologies. It is comprised of more than 350,000 measured drawings, large-format photographs, and written histories for more than 35,000 historic structures and sites dating from Pre-Columbian times to the twentieth century.

Art Images for College Teaching
This collection of images is a personal, non-profit project of its author, art historian and visual resources curator Allan T. Kohl. AICT is intended primarily to disseminate images of art and architectural works in the public domain on a free-access, free-use basis to all levels of the educational community, as well as to the public at large. The images displayed on this site have been photographed on location by the author, who consents to their use in any application that is both educational and non-commercial in nature.
The Web Gallery of Art is a virtual museum and searchable database of European painting and sculpture of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods (1100-1850), currently containing over 14,500 reproductions. Commentaries on pictures, biographies of artists are available.
WebMuseum is an online collection of images ranging from European Gothic to Twentieth Century to Japanese art and architecture. The site was created to showcase art and architecture and to provide an online resource to items available in art museums around the world. Anyone is able to contribute to the collection of online images therefore it is necessary to be careful about the nature of the information provided.
University of Washington Libraries Digital Collections
Many academic institutions have created digital libraries consisting of images that are free to use and accessible to anyone. The collection from the University of Washington offers several unique collections of images. Many are focused on the state of Washington but some offer unique glimpses in American history through photography collections such as the 19th century Actors Photographs.
