Chinook, the library catalog
While the majority of your research will be conducted in databases, you may want to check out the library catalog to see if there are any books, government reports or anything else that might be able to assist you with your project.

 

Sage eReference CU
Specialized encyclopedias are an ideal place to find background information on your topic. Use Sage eReference to search hundreds of topic-specific encyclopedias.

Business Source Complete CU

Full-text articles from scholarly, trade, and news sources. Includes company profiles and SWOT analyses from MarketLine, industry research and limited market research.

 

ABI/Inform CU

Full-text articles from scholarly, trade, and news sources. Includes press releases, newswires, and some company, industry, and market data.

 

Business Context

IBISWorld CU

Industry surveys can be used for information about the current business environment, regulations, developments, and issues that impact companies.

 

Search by industry, keyword, product, or company. Remember to try synonyms or broader terms if you don't find what you want.

 

The "Industry Performance" section of each report provides an overview of what factors impact companies in this industry (for example, international competition, consumer spending, increased regulation, etc.).

Conference Board Research Collection CU

Includes studies of Fortune 500 companies on business trends, leadership decisions, performance excellence, corporate governance, human resources, productivity and more.

Browse recent reports by topic using the dropdown menu. Topics include: energy & sustainability, global value chains, innovation, and philanthropy & citizenship.

 

CSR Reports

Many companies promote their socially responsible practices on their website. Usually the CSR policies and activities will be found in the "About Us" or "Investor Relations" area. Look for terms such as sustainability, supplier diversity, community, corporate giving, and citizenship. If you are not able to find a company's report on their website, try one of the sources below.

GREENR: CU The Global Reference on the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources.

 

This database focuses on the physical, social, and economic aspects of environmental issues. Topic, organization, and country portals form research centers around issues covering energy systems, health care, agriculture, climate change, population, and economic development.

 

Big Data

Owners/Investors

The availability of information about a company's ownership and organizational model depends on whether the company is public or private. Public companies release a great deal of information through annual reports and SEC filings. Privately held companies are not required to disclose information about their business, thus limiting the amount of information that can be found.

 

Business Insights: Global CU

Company and industry profiles with links to relevant trade articles, market research reports, SWOT analyses, rankings, and company histories.

 

Annual Report (10-K)

The 10-K will include a statement (Part 1, item 1: Business) which details the company's business model, competitive advantage, strategic plan, and much more. Only publicly-traded companies file this document.

Find the 10-K in the Investor Relations section of the company's website, or by searching the SEC's EDGAR database.

 

Reference USA CU

Search for businesses by name, keyword, location, or industry. Financial information, employees, and operating expenses are listed as available, even for small businesses.

 

 

Customers

Mintel Market Reports CU
This database contains information on consumer trends, demographic profiles, brand share, and market drivers. Search by product, lifestyle attribute, or company.

The first page of each report provides an overview of the industry supply chain including supplying and buying industries. Search for reports about your supplying industries.
