You can request that we hold a CU Libraries book or item for you. You can also request:


  • that we deliver a book to your nearest CU library
  • items that are checked out
  • items that are missing or lost
Request (1-2 days)
  1. Click on the REQUEST IT! button.
  2. Enter your identikey.
  3. Select a pickup location.
  4. You will receive an email informing you that the book is ready for pickup.

If there is more than one volume, a screen listing the multiple volumes will appear. Select the radio button for the volume desired. Unfortunately, only one volume may be requested at a time. However, if you are logged into My Chinook you do not have to re-authenticate for each request.


Request something that is already checked out (7 days)
  1. Check to see if any regional Prospector libraries hold what you are looking for [Quickest option: 3-5 days].
  2. If it is only available at CU, click on the REQUEST IT button.
  3. Enter your identikey.
  4. Select a pickup location.
  5. You will receive an email informing you that the book is ready for pickup.

Request something that is not on the shelf

  1. Place a request by clicking the Request It! button in Chinook.
  2. If the book is found you should receive an email indicating that it is ready for pickup.
  3. If the book is not found within 1-3 days you should receive an email advising you to request the book through Prospector or Interlibrary Loan.

Request something that is not on the shelf and already shows as traced or lost in Chinook

  1. Request the book in Prospector by clicking the Prospector link in the catalog and following the instructions.
  2. If the book is not held by Prospector, place an Interlibrary Loan request through ILLiad.

This is an academic research library system. Libraries materials you have checked out are needed by others. In order to serve the needs of all our patrons we require library materials be returned upon notification.

This applies to all borrowers, without exception.


All users are guaranteed a 14 day checkout (excluding short term checkouts of less than 14 days). After that, any book may be recalled for another University patron, or for Course Reserve. Typically, you are given 10 days to return the item, unless it was already due in less than 10 days. An email notice is sent the same day that an item is recalled, so the clock starts ticking immediately!
