DIAL Presentation Module

Objectives:

  1. Students will be able to edit and add to a group in order to create presentations.
  2. Students will be able to save a set of images in a group in order to create presentations.
  3. Students will be able to create a presentation in order to enhance their classroom and research learning.

Outline:

  1. Introduction
    1. Information about today's goals
      1. How to edit and save a group of images
      2. How to create a presentation
      3. How to export a presentation
    2. Initial Questions
  2. Creating, editing, and saving a group of images
    1. Searching and selecting images
      1. Direct students to select a collection of their choice (example: Moac)
      2. Direct students to perform a basic search (example: Hagemeyer and flower*)
      3. Direct students to select three or more images
    2. Create a group of images
      1. Go to File, select New Group (a New Group window will open)
      2. Drag and drop one thumbnail from the right-hand side into the new, empty group window to transfer ALL selected images
    1. Saving a group
      1. MAKE SURE that the new group window has an outlined white box around it
      2. Go to File, select Save Group
      3. Specify a name for the group and the location in which you wish to save it
    2. Adding images to an existing group
      1. Direct students to close their groups by clicking the upper right-hand X in the group window
      2. Perform another search; determine another image you wish to add
      3. Go to File, select Open Group, then Browse for your group
      4. Drag and drop the new image into the window as before
      5. Save as before
  3. Creating a Presentation
    1. Making sure their groups are open, direct students to go to File and select Create a Presentation
    2. Show students how to rearrange image sequence by dragging and dropping
    3. Survey the components of the Presentation View with the students
      1. Remote
      2. Data
      3. Thumbnail
      4. Larger image
      5. Toolbar
    4. Direct students to name and save their presentations
    5. Show students how to close the Presentation View and then bring it up again
  4. Exporting a presentation to HTML or Powerpoint
    1. Highlight your presentation
    2. Go to File, select Export Presentation to Powerpoint
    3. Specify a resolution
    4. Specift name and destination
    5. Select Save (Insight creates a folder)
    6. Two notes:
      1. This only works with Windows
      2. Data does not come with images
