Using Insight Tools
Group Window and Workspace
The Insight interface contains two main windows. The group window contains thumbnail images and brief metadata records. The workspace contains images that have been selected and a toolbar.

Opening Objects in the Workspace
- To open one image in the workspace, double click on a thumbnail image in the group window.
- To open multiple images, hold down the shift key while double clicking on the thumbnail images in the group window.
The Workspace Toolbar contains 13 tools. Rollover a tool in the image of the Workspace Toolbar to see the name. Click on the image of a tool for more information.
|
- Select and Move Tool (return to top)
- This tool allows the user to select an image by clicking on it, and also to enlarge or reduce the size of the image window by clicking and dragging the border.
- Close Tool (return to top)
- This closes the currently selected image; all images in the workspace can be closed by holding down the Shift key while closing.
- Zoom in Tool (return to top)
- This tool increases the magnification of the image; there are three ways to zoom in:
- Click on any part of the image to zoom in. You can continue to click on the image until you have zoomed in to the highest resolution. A message will appear in the bottom of the workspace: “Cannot zoom in. No larger size is available.”
- To zoom in on the highest resolution, hold down the Control key when you click on the image.
- Click and drag to draw a box around the area you want to enlarge.
- Zoom out Tool (return to top)
- This tool decreases the magnification of the image by clicking anywhere on the image. Note that the image must be magnified before it can be reduced (that is, the user must "zoom in" before you can "zoom out"). Once the user has zoomed out to the maximum, a message will appear in the bottom of the workspace: "Cannot zoom out. already viewing smallest size."
- Metadata Tool (return to top)
- This tool allows the user to view the metadata associated with the digital object. Clicking on this tool will open a new window containing the entire data record associated with the digital object. The user can move the metadata window by clicking inside the window and dragging it to another location in the workspace. Note that longer data fields may be truncated and will contain an arrow toggle at the right side of the data line. To close the metadata window, either click the "x" on the top of the window or click the toolbar icon again.
- Pan/Scroll Tool (return to top)
- This allows the user to pan around a magnified image (note that this tool only works when the image is magnified). Click and drag the mouse over the image to pan/scroll; release the mouse to end the pan/scroll.
- Maximize Tool (return to top)
- This tool enlarges the entire image to a size that fits the whole workspace.
- Minimize Tool (return to top)
- This tool reduces the entire image to the smallest size.
- Print Tool (return to top)
- This tool allows the user to print an access image and a short metadata record of the selected image.
- Help Tool (return to top)
- This tool accesses online Luna Insight help documents.
- Display Links Tool (return to top)
- This tool allows the user to view any annotations or links related to the selected object.
- Create/Edit Links Tool (return to top)
- This tool allows the user to annotate the selected digital object, link it to another digital object (image, audio file, or video), or link it to a web page.
- Measurement and Scaling Tool (return to top)
- This tool allows the user to measure and change the size of the image.
- Back (return to top)
- This button returns the user to the group window.
