Basic Searching for DIAL Collections
Basic searching in DIAL allows you to search by keyword or a few of the most popular fields in each collection.
Example from the Aerial Photographs of Colorado Collection:
- Choose the search by keywords option
- Type one or more terms in the text box and click the search button. Do not use "and", "or", or "not". Use the Advanced Search option for multiple search terms using "and", "or", or "not".
- Your search results will appear as thumbnails to the right of the search menu.
- To exit from the thumbnail view of your search results and return to browsing the entire collection, click the show all icon on the right side of the browsing window.
Example from the Aerial Photographs of Colorado Collection:
- The search menu allows you to search by date, county, 1:24,000 USGS topographic quadrangle name, landmark, and keywords.
- Choose a field to search and, depending on the collection you are searching, a list of values in that field will automatically display or click on list all to display all the values in that field.
- Type the beginning of a word and hit enter or click on list to bring up all terms that start with the letters you typed.
- Double click on a term from the list or choose one and click select to run the search.
- Your search results will appear as thumbnails to the right of the search menu.
- To exit from the thumbnail view of your search results and return to browsing the entire collection, click the show all icon on the right side of the browsing window.
