plaque: Jerry Crail Johnson

Jerry Crail Johnson

The Earth Sciences and Map Library is named in honor of Jerry Crail Johnson, the mother of two University of Colorado graduates, Eric and Alan Johnson. She was one of the first women to graduate from Northwestern University with a degree in geology. She instilled in her family a deep appreciation for reading and literature. This, coupled with her abiding interest in the earth sciences, makes the Jerry Crail Johnson Earth Sciences and Map Library a fitting tribute to her memory.

A plaque in the library carries her favorite verse:

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it.
-- from Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam
