  • CNKI工具书馆--A portal to over 4,000 Chinese reference works. Although full text view requires subscription, snippets which contain the search terms, as well as sources and references could be viewed.

 

  • 爱词霸--Online English-Chinese/Chinese-English dictionary

 

  • CNKI翻译助手--Online English-Chinese/Chinese-English dictionary of science & technology. Sample sentences are provided.

 

 

  • 康熙字典网上版--Online version of the Kangxi character dictionary. Users can search for single characters, browse the contents by radical, or simply "leaf" through the dictionary.

 

 

 

 

 

  • 佛学词典在线版--Provides a combined search within 22 dictionaries: 佛学大辞典, 佛学常见词汇, 三藏法数, 中国佛教, 翻译名义集, 佛学次第统编, 汉英-英汉-英英佛教词汇, 巴-英南传佛教辞典, 法相词典, 佛教器物简述, 佛教人物传, 禅宗语录辞典, etc.

 

  • Lexicon of Confucianism--Based on an ongoing manuscript of  Professor Lao Sze-kwang 劳思光. Provides brief introduction on basic Confusianist classics, commentaties, persons, and concepts. The website's search function seems to be down from time to time, but you can easily browse the terms by clicking on the "Categories" on the left side of the page

 

  • 中華百科全書--Online version of the 10 voulme Zhonghua bai ke quan shu published by Chinese Culture University Press.

 

  • ChinaVitae 中国名人录--A resource of biographical information on more than 4000 current Chinese leaders in government, politics, the military, education, business, and the media. Also tracks the appearances and travel of approximately 300 leading Chinese officials.

 

 

  • 臺灣地區地名查詢系統--Collects place names in Twaiwan. Information includes place names (both current and historical) and their pronunciation, history, and electronic maps. Also include an English-Chinese GIS Terminology Look-Up system.

 

  • Antique Maps (the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Library)--The Antique Maps of China collection includes more than 230 maps, charts, pictures, books and atlases from the Special Collections of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Library. It represents almost all samples of China maps produced by European cartographers from the 16th to 19th centuries. This cartographic archive vividly records the long history of cross-cultural exchanges between China and the West.

 

  • 兩千年中西曆轉換(中央研究院)--An online tool for converting between Chinese and Western calendars from A.D. 1 to A.D. 2100. Conversion in both directions is possible.

 

 

 

  • MCLC Resource Center--Maintained by Kirk Denton, Professor of Chinese Studies at the Ohio State University.Contains bibliographies of mostly English-language materials on modern and contemporary Chinese literature, film, art, music, and culture and also provides links to book reviews published online by the journal Modern Chinese Literature and Culture and the MCLC Resource Center.

 

 

  • Barend J. ter Haar's Bibliographies on China--This is the personal website of professor Barend J. ter Haar, who teaches Chinese history at Leiden University, with a strong focus on cultural and religious history. It contains bibliographies on
  • Song Research Tools--Maintained by Hilde De Weerdt, based on Peter Bol's "Sung Research Tools" (1990), this is a guide to materials used for studies of all aspects of Chinese society during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

 

  • Chinese History Research Site at UCSD--Maintained by graduate students in the Modern Chinese History program at UCSD, this site provides book reviews and essays by UCSD students, as well as bibliographies, sources, archives on Modern Chinese History Studies. it has 7 sections:
    • The Reviews and essays section provides book reviews and critical essays on classics in the historiography of modern China (last updated January 2006).
    • The Cultural Revolution section provides book reviews and critical essays on the historiography of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, 1966-1976.
    • The Sources section is a guide to English and Chinese materials relating to historical research on modern China.
    • The Archives section provides information on Chinese local archives and also serves as a site for researchers to exchange information.
    • The Bibliography section contains a list of English-language works on Qing, Republican, and PRC history. It was last updated July, 2001.
    • The Links section contains a list of China-related web sites and provides quick access to the on-line catalogues of East Asian libraries throughout the world.
  • Contemporary China: a Book List--This is a extensive list of books on Contemporary China compiled by Lubna Malik and Professor Lynn White at Princeton University.

 

  • Essential Reading on Chinese Philosophy--A list of essential secondary readings in English on Chinese philosophy, compiled by Bryan W. Van Norden, Professor of Chinese Philosophy in Vassar college.

 

  • Chinese Religious Culture, a Research Guide--Compiled by Barend J. ter Haar, Professor of Chinese History at Leiden University. Provides a large amount of the most important resources, both print works and online resources, in Western languages as well as Chinese and Japanese.

  • Bibliography of Western Language Publications on Chinese Popular Religion (1995 to present)--Compiled by Philip Clart, Professor of Chinese Studies at University of Leipzig. A list of publications that have appeared in recent years is also maintained on this site.

 

 

 

  • Daoist Studies--A Internet resource for Taoist Studies, with scholars around the world as its contributors. Contains information on publications, conferences, useful links, jobs, etc. Its bibliography database currently has over 6,000 records and is continuously being updated and expanded.

 

  • 郭店楚简--Searchable database of 張光裕's 《郭店楚簡研究》. Also provides searchable bibliography on studies on the Chu Bamboo Strips of Guodian.

 

  • Bibliography of Contemporary Chinese Art--Compiled by Britta Erickson, an independent scholar on contemporary Chinese art. This bibliography comprises two parts: a general bibliography, and individual bibliographies for more than 1500 artists.

 

 

 

  • 全國圖書書目資訊網--This is the national Bibliographic Information network of Taiwan. It shows holdings of over 70 member libraries.

  • 中国国家图书馆特色资源库--The National Digital Library of China provides centralized access to locally created digital collections of e-books, doctoral dissertations, resources from the Republican Era, local gazetteers, as well as images of new year pictures, inscriptions on oracle bones, stone inscription ect.The Local Gazetteers collection and the Resources from the Republican Era colletion provides full text access. The E-book collection and Doctoral Dissertation collection offers only the first 24 pages of each title.

 

 

  • Chinese Philosophical etext Archive--Electronic version of Chinese philosophical texts, focusing on Confucian and Confucian-inspired texts from the 11th century C.E. to the present.

 

  • 郭店楚简--Searchable database of 張光裕's 《郭店楚簡研究》. Also provides searchable bibliography on studies on the Chu Bamboo Strips of Guodian.

 

  • Confucius2000--a collection of articles on Confucianism and Taoism by contemporary Chinese scholars.

 

  • 烈女傳--Online version of the 新刊古列女傳八卷 (劉向質編撰 顧凱之圖), both text resources and image resources. Also provides introduction of the text by Anne Behnke Kinney, Professor of Chinese at University of Virginia.

 

  • McGill-Harvard-Yenching Library Ming-Qing Women’s Writings Digitization Project--Online digital archive of writings by women from the Ming-Qing period held by the Harvard-Yenching Library. Besides scanned images of 90 texts, the database also allows browsing and searching by a number of features besides title and author, such as poetic form, marital status, tune pattern, and native region. Terms may be entered in pinyin or traditional characters.

 

 

 

  • Thesaurus Linguae Sericae(TLS) 漢學文典--Edited by a large group of scholars from China, U.S. and Europe, this database provides a corpus of classical Chinese texts wherever possible with interlinear translations.

 

 

 

  • 臺灣期刊論文索引系統--Contains citations of periodicals that are held by the National Central Library in Taiwan (coverage: 1970-present). Articles with the pdf icon icon have full text available.

 

  • 中國文化研究論文目錄1946--1979-- This is the online version of the 中國文化研究論文目錄: 民國35年至68年. Contains bibliographic data on articles about Chinese culture that were published at Taiwan during 1946-1979.

 

  • 東洋学文献類目検索-- This is the online version of the important bibliography, 東洋学文献類目検索 Annual Bibliography of Oriental Studies, covering books and articles in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and English.

 

  • Hong Kong Journal Online--Created by the University of Hong Kong Libraries, this is a full-text image database providing access to selected academic and professional journals, both in English and Chinese, published in Hong Kong. Titles included in this database cover a wide range of disciplines. Issues included in this database vary from journal to journal with the earliest going back to 1872.

  • 香港文學資料庫--Database of literature from Hong Kong. Contains data on Hong Kong literature that appeared in journals and newspapers. Searchable for author, title, abstract, and keywords.

 

  • Asia Major--Published by the Institute of History and Philology of the Academia Sinica, Taiwan. It is a continuation of Asia Major, New Series, published in England from 1949 to 1975. It covers all periods of Chinese history, literature, ideas, and culture in general. All articles since 1924 are fully available on-online in PDF format, with the exception of the most recent volume

 

 

 

  • 香港文學資料庫--Database of literature from Hong Kong. Contains full text of articles on Hong Kong literature that appeared in 54 journals and 6 newspapers.

 

 

 

 

  • 中国国家图书馆馆藏博士论文库--Contains bibliographic data on over 170,000 doctoral dissertations held by the National Library of China. Also offers full text of the first 24 pages of each title.

 

  • 臺灣博碩士論文知識加值系統--Created by the National Central Library of Taiwan, this database provides bibliographic data on thesis and dissertations from Taiwan. Abstract, table of content, reference, as well as full text of some titles are also available.

 

  • HKLIS Dissertations & Theses Collections--An online union collection of Hong Kong postgraduate students’ doctoral and master dissertations and theses indexed in the online catalogues of seven university libraries in Hong Kong.

 

 

  • Hong Kong University Theses Online--Contains 8,219 titles of theses and dissertations submitted for higher degrees to the University of Hong Kong since 1941, covering subjects in the arts, humanities, education and the social, medical and natural sciences. Many of the works deal entirely with or focus on subjects relating to Hong Kong. Full text could be downloaded when fill in the Copyright Acknowledgement form.

 

  • CNKI中国博士学位论文全文数据库--Contains over 50,000 doctoral dissertations completed since 1999. Updated daily. Full text are not available without subscription, but bibliographic data can be viewed.
