Jina Choi Wakimoto is the Director Metadata Services Department. She has been a member of the Libraries faculty since October 2005, when she joined CU-Boulder Libraries as the Head of the Cataloging Department. She was previously the cataloging coordinator at the California State University Northridge. She received her B.A. from the University of Maryland, and her Masters in Library Science from the University of Chicago.

Since her appointment, Jina has changed the name of the Department to better reflect the Department's activities and re-organized the Department to a team structure to respond to changing needs of the researchers more efficiently. The Metadata Services Department is responsible for resource description and access for discovery for all Libraries, including resources produced elsewhere and those produced by the campus. The Department is responsible for engaging external and internal users in instruction in metadata standards and developing metadata policy. We provide intellectual access to information resources to promote client self-sufficiency in finding, identifying, selecting, and obtaining resources via Chinook Library Catalog, Digital Asset Library (Luna) and Digital Collections of Colorado (DigiTool). Jina is responsible for overall management of the Department with 10 faculty and 22 staff.

Since starting her career as a librarian in Serials Records Division at the National Agricultural Library in 1980, her experience has been in serials cataloging and her particular expertise is with all aspects of electronic resources, including management, provision of access, link resolver and metasearching. Her research interest has progressed from the use and usability of electronic resources to the future of cataloging and the catalog.

Jina's service in American Library Association and its Divisions include: the ALCTS Serials Section Committee to Study Serials Cataloging, ALCTS Electronic Resources Interest Group (Chair), ALA Human Resource Development and Recruitment Advisory Committee. She was elected to the Serials and Other Continuing Resources Section Standing Committee of The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) for the term 2007-2011.
