Center for British and Irish Studies
University of Colorado at Boulder

Introduction

This Finding Guide includes certain categories of magazines, journals and newspapers available in the libraries of the University of Colorado at Boulder. Most of those listed are periodicals which have ceased publication but some are currently received. These materials are located variously in the Periodical Room, Media Library, or other specialized libraries on the Boulder Campus. Locations are noted in the entries.

The guide does not include scholarly, learned, or academic journals published in Britain, a large number of which are held by the CU Libraries, nor does it include general or popular magazines. Such publications are listed in the computer-based catalog.

The English Literary Periodicals series consists of 233 titles published during the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in England. While primarily literary in focus, these periodicals deal with a wide variety of subjects and thus offer the historian or scholar valuable resource material not only in the area of literature, but on such topics as theater, art, music, history, politics, sociology, philosophy, economics, religion and science. Of special interest is the English slant on life in America and particularly the American Revolution.
