Guide to Radio Free Europe (RFE)
and Radio Liberty (RL) Publications
on Microfiche
Radio Free Europe (RFE) and Radio
Liberty (RL) monitored Communist activities worldwide, especially
in Central and Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.
RFE/RL is now a non-profit news
source that focuses on events in Eastern and Central Europe, and in
the former Soviet Union. RFE/RL broadcasts news and analyses to the
peoples of these countries in their own languages -- information that
is free from censorship or state control. A related organization,
Open Media Research Institute
(OMRI), is dedicated to the study of the former Soviet Union and
Central and Eastern Europe.
The Government Publications Library has the RFE/RL archival
microfiche collection which roughly covers 1953 through 1989/90.
Indexing of the collection is poor. Major access points to the
collection are by region or country and by series title. Within each
series, documents are arranged by date. Researchers looking for
information on specific events need to examine documents within
series by the approximate date of the event.
The Government Publications Library holds paper copies of:
- Report on the USSR (1989-91) Y3.B78:14/Vol/Date
- Report on Eastern Europe (1989-91)
Y3.B78:13/Vol/Date
- RFE/RL Research Report (1992-1994)
Y3.B78:15/Vol/Date
