  • Bureau of Public Debt
    This division of the Department of Treasury borrows the money needed to operate the federal government and accounts for the resulting debt. This page has information on the size of the debt, savings bonds, and treasury bills.
  • Congressional Budget Office
    "The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) was created by the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974. CBO's mission is to provide the Congress with objective, timely, nonpartisan analyses needed for economic and budget decisions and with the information and estimates required for the Congressional budget process."
  • Congressional Research Service (CRS)
    The research arm of Congress, which prepares reports (usually under 20 pages long) on topics of interest to members of Congress. Search these CRS Reports CU through LexisNexis. Enter "budget" or "taxation" as search terms.
  • Consolidated Federal Funds Report (CFFR)
    Provides data from 1993 to present. The CFFR lists federal obligations and expenditures by state, county, municipality, or county subdivision. Includes detailed funding by program.
  • Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
    "OMB's predominant mission is to assist the President in overseeing the preparation of the Federal budget and to supervise its administration in Executive Branch agencies. In helping to formulate the President's spending plans, OMB evaluates the effectiveness of agency programs, policies, and procedures, assesses competing funding demands among agencies, and sets funding priorities."

      "Instructions or information issued by OMB to Federal agencies. These are expected to have a continuing effect of two years or more."
    • USASpending.gov
      This site shows where the money is being spent on contracts and grants from the federal government.
