The database is based on the holdings of the library of the Natural Hazards Center which "houses an extensive collection of social science literature focusing on how society prepares for, responds to, recovers from, and mitigates natural disasters". Many of the disasters are weather-related.

• National Climate Data Center (NCDC) includes publications and online data, such as:
• Climate Maps of the United States provides over 2000 maps for the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. These full color maps are available for climatic elements such as temperature, precipitation, snow, wind, pressure, etc., chosen to portray the climate of the U.S. The period of record of the data for most of the maps is 1961-1990. Most of the maps can be ordered in a high resolution Adobe PDF format, or as ESRI Shape Files.

• National Water and Climate Center provides Climate data for states and counties, water supply forecasts by state and river basin, precipitation reports, reservoir reports, information from the Western Regional Climate Data Center, reports on snow pack, and other information.

• Natural Hazard Statistics provides "statistical information fatalities, injuries, and damages caused by weather related hazards. These statistics are compiled by the Office of Meteorology and the National Climatic Data Center from information contained in Storm Data, a report comprising data from NWS forecast offices in the 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands." The site provides state and US summaries and separate reports on lightning, tornadoes, tropical cyclones, heat, floods, cold, winter storms and wind. Data available from 1995 to present.
