Government Images Databases
- DefenseLINK Images, U.S.
Department of Defense this website contains photos, web graphics, sounds
and videos. Selected highlight imagery from combat camera photographers around
the world can be viewed and downloaded. The database can be browsed or searched
by keyword.
- FEMA Photo Library this library contains over 9,200 images
of natural disasters and terrorist events taken by FEMA's distaster staff photographers.
- Library of Congress
Print and Photographs Online Catalog provides online access to about 50%
of P&P holdings. Digitized collections of photographs can be simultaneously
or individually searched. Not all images displayed in this catalog are in
the public domain, and some images will not display outside the Library of
Congress Internet domain. Some collections contain only bibliographic records.
- National Aeronautics and Space Administration,
NASA Image Exchange (NIX) is a web-based search engine for simultaneously
searching one or more of NASA's online image and photo collections, which
document the human and robotic exploration of outer space, as well as aeronautical
experiments preceding space flight."NIX searches databases of over 450,000
NASA images and links to an additional 2,641,326 NASA images that reside on
the web (accessible via the ADDITIONAL NASA IMAGERY link on the home page)".
- Images from the History of Medicine (IHM), National Library of Medicine this site provides access to the nearly
60,000 images in the prints and photograph collection of the NLM. "The collection includes portraits, pictures of institutions, caricatures, genre
scenes, and graphic art in a variety of media, illustrating the social and historical aspects of medicine." Images can be searched by keywod or browsed
by five different database fields.
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Photo Library the collection includes over 20,000 online
images of weather and space, our shores and coastal seas, and marine species. Images can be browsed by individual albums and the catalogs of images, or
can be searched by keyword.
- National Park Geology Image Sources this page lists image sources developed by the National
Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey, and NOAA. Images can only be searched or browsed by individual database.
- New York Public Library Digital Library
Collection "provides online access to collections of unique and rare materials
of value to students, creators, scholars, and educators through searchable
archival finding aids, full-text documents, digital surrogates and guides
to images, and born-digital materials." The collection is searchable by individual
database. A forthcoming collection, Digital Image Library, will be completed
in 2004 and will create a searchable database of 600,000 images documenting
culture studies and social history internationally.
- U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service National Image
Library this website contains still photo images of wildlife, plants,
National Wildlife Refuges and other scenics, as well as wildlife management
work. Images can be searched by keyword, date, or libraries/formats.
- Yellowstone National Park
Graphics this page provides several publication-quality images in each
of the following six categories: Special Roosevelt Arch Section, Wildlife,
Structures & Signs, Geothermal Features, Scenics, Visitors & Staff,
and Issues. All images are in the public domain and are available for use
free of charge.
