Use RefWorks: Importing Records from Chinook, CU's Library Catalog

 

  • Search Chinook in Refworks
  • Chinook Plus
  • Chinook Classic

 

You can search for references through the RefWorks interface. RefWorks provides access to many university library catalogs (including CU's) and also PubMed (from the National Library of Medicine).

 

Directions:

  1. Under “Search” menu, select “Online Catalog or Database”
  2. Choose the catalog you'd like to search (University of Colorado Boulder)
  3. Choose the maximum number of references you'd like returned for your search
  4. Choose either the Quick Search (all fields) or an Advanced Search by Author, Title, Descriptor or Publication Year
  5. Enter your search terms and click the "Search" button at the bottom of the screen
  6. Your search results will appear in a new window
  7. Check the citations you're interested in including in your RefWorks database, then click on “Import” button
  8. The citations will appear in your "Last Imported" folder and any other folder you choose
  1. Search for items in Chinook
  2. Click on the title of an item you'd like to include in RefWorks
  3. Click Export to RefWorks from the main toolbar

To export multiple items at once, create a list of items.

 

Step 1: Search Chinook :

  1. Click “Add to List” on all of the titles you want to export.
  2. When finished adding titles click the “My List” at the top of the page.
  3. Click the “Save to List” button.
  4. This will ask you to login using your identikey and password.
  5. You will then get a box asking you which list you want to save to. You can either use an existing list (if you have one) or click “Save to new list.”
  6. After you have clicked “add” you will get a popup saying the titles have been added. To view the full list click “My Chinook.”
  7. Then click the “My lists” box in the lower right corner.
  8. Then click the title of the list you want to export to Refworks.
  9. Click “Export my Lists.”
  10. Choose "MARC" from the "Format the List" on the left (ignore the RefWorks option)
  11. Choose either "E-mail" or "Screen" on the "Send List To" on the right
  12. Click the "Submit" button
  13. Copy the citations from your email or from the browser screen

Step 2: Import into RefWorks

  1. Log in to your RefWorks Account
  2. Go to the References menu and select "Import"
  3. Choose the Import Filter/Data Source (MARC Format) and Database (All MARC Formats)
  4. Select the "Import Data from the Following Text" and paste in the citations from Chinook
  5. Click the "Import" button
  6. The citations should be processed and added to your library/database

  3. Click the "Save Marked Records"
  4. Click "View Saved Records" from the top of the screen
  5. Choose "MARC" from the "Format the List" on the left (ignore the RefWorks option)
  6. Choose either "E-mail" or "Screen" on the "Send List To" on the right
  7. Click the "Submit" button
  8. Copy the citations from your email or from the browser screen

Step 2: Import into RefWorks
