Strategic Plan Activity Form

The purpose of this form is to solicit ideas for possible activities that will advance the goals outlined in the strategic plan.

A. Client Centered Focus02email

Goal 1: Library programs, services and policies will be based on the needs of our clientele rather than library traditions. 

(1) Objective 1:  Build, Sustain, Preserve Collections.
Continue to build, sustain and preserve a collection of information resources that are relevant to current and future campus teaching and research needs.

(2) Objective 2: Reduce Collections Processing Time.
Reduce the time it takes to make information resources available to our clientele.  E.g. get books from selection to shelf faster.

(3) Objective 3: Enhance Document Delivery.

(4) Objective 4: Educate students in information retrieval/analysis.

(5) Objective 5: Explore New Service Models.
Explore new services that support our clients changing information needs.  E.g. establish a task force to investigate new services and required technologies.

Goal 2: The Libraries will continually improve the experiences of our clients by fostering a culture of assessment-based action and by actively promoting our services.

(6) Objective 1:  Create Mechanism For Assessing Clients / Services.
To increase responsiveness to our clients and invest our resources more wisely, create a mechanism for continually assessing our clients’ service needs, and for continually assessing programs.

(7) Objective 2: Get Out The Word About Us.
Inform clients about services, policies, and programs in order to create and sustain a pool of informed users and enhance the visibility of the University Libraries.  E.g. create a new marketing plan based on the Strategic Plan.

B. Library as Destination

Goal 1: The Library will create physical spaces that respond to the research and learning styles of CU students and faculty.

(8) Objective 1:  Provide Enhanced Physical Spaces.
The University Libraries will provide enhanced library spaces by establishing a variety of learning environments that enable and support faculty and student needs and promote user self-sufficiency.  E.g.  repurpose existing library spaces to increase availability of group study space during evening and weekend hours.

(9) Objective 2: Promote Libraries As Community Learning Space.
Promote libraries as a community learning space to provide an opportunity for faculty and others to share results of research with campus community.  E.g. create CU Salon as a center for intellectual exchange on the CU-Boulder campus.

(10) Objective 3: Norlin More Intuitive for Clients, Efficient for Staff.
To make Norlin more intuitive for clients and more efficient for staff, we will commit to improving the environment, including physical space.  E.g. small things/quick fix task force.

Goal 2: Libraries will create information spaces that respond to the diverse research and learning needs and that will advance and sustain a culture of digital scholarship

(11) Objective 1: Discovery Tools.
To provide for enhanced user customization/personalization and improved integration of collections resulting in improved access and transparency across formats, we will reassess current discovery tools, as well as investigate and implement new discovery tools that facilitate client access to resources.  E.g. review Chinook indexes and reassess Chinook public interface.

(12) Objective 2: Creation of CU Scholarship.
To increase visibility of scholarship, participate in creation of CU Scholarship, the University’s institutional open access initiative.

C. Optimal Organizational Structure

Goal 1: Tailor the organizational structure to services that address client needs rather than our traditions.

To better adapt to client needs, implement new  organizational structures.

To ensure courteous and professional customer service at our client’s point of need, we will implement a set of core competencies for all Libraries staff.

Goal 2: Equip our staff with the skills, knowledge, and tools they need to maximize the potential of the organization.

(15) Objective 1:  Establish Common Values.
