Most maps can be checked out from the library. Many of our CDs may also
be checked out. Atlases, reference materials, and maps published before
1950, rare or fragile maps, or those encapsulated between mylar do not
circulate. Most non-circulating items may be photocopied. Circulation
of Map Library materials is at the discretion of Map Library staff.
Maps circulate for 14 days to patrons with valid library photo ID. CD's
circulate for 2 days. Please complete check-outs 15 minutes prior to
closing.
Please return maps to the Map Library, during our
business hours. Hand the map to an employee or place in the return
box in front of the reference desk. You may request a return receipt
if you wish.
Renewal
If
your patron
type designates renewal privileges,
you can renew your maps or books any of four
ways.
Notes About Borrowing Map Library materials
Maps are delicate items. Please handle them with care. If you need to hang
the map up for a presentation, please ask for a hanging kit. Do not
put pins in the maps. Please do not take our maps on a trip our out
in the field. We will give you a protective tube or envelope when you
check out a map; please return the map in it. If we give you the map
rolled in a tube, please do not fold it.
Fines
Fines for late, lost, or damaged materials
are intended as a deterrent and can far exceed
the original cost of a map. You are responsible
for keeping track of due dates. The Library
sends out overdue notices as a courtesy only.
Fines are charged on reserve, recalled, lost, or damaged items. Fines begin to accumulate on the first day or the first hour after an item is overdue. Fines accrue as follows:
Overdue recalled items $2/day $40 maximum
Overdue reserve items $2/hour $40 maximum
Items declared "lost" will incur a $50.00 replacement charge
Damage charges and replacement processing fees are extra
