  • Green Atlas
    "The debut volume of the multimedia Green Map Atlas series is freely accessible online, in English and Japanese. It includes 88 pages illustrated with over 350 photographs and map views. In the future this series will focus on other world regions or themes, such as youth or waterways mapping."
  • Green Map

  • Modern Language Association Language Map
    Uses data from the 2000 United States census to display the locations and numbers of speakers of thirty languages and three groups of less commonly spoken languages in the United States.
  • Obesity Maps (on "Ban Trans Fats" site)

  • Poverty Mapping

    "The speech accent archive is established to uniformly exhibit a large set of speech accents from a variety of language backgrounds. Native and non-native speakers of English all read the same English paragraph and are carefully recorded. The archive .. is meant to be used by linguists as well as other people who simply wish to listen to and compare the accents of different English speakers.
  • Thanksgiving Food Maps from Indiana University Libraries
    Maps and posters showing where in the U.S. foods commonly eaten for Thanksgiving dinner are grown.
  • UC Atlas of Global Inequality
    "Time series maps of the world enable the user to see changes in global patterns of inequality every 10 years from 1960 to 2000. With these map sequences you can examine changes in life expectancy, GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per person, and many other measures."
  • UNEP/GRID-Arendal Maps and Graphics resources
    "This service is an on-going project to collect and catalogue all graphic products that have been prepared for publications and web-sites from the last 15 years in a wide range of themes related to environment and sustainable development." Includes interactive maps.
  • World Accessibility Map
    Shows travel time to major cities; developed by the European Commission and the World Bank for the 2009 World Development Report.
  • Worldmapper
    "Worldmapper is a collection of world maps, where territories are re-sized on each map according to the subject of interest." This type of map is called a cartogram. Subjects include immigration, emigration, numerous imports and exports, population, and various types of transportation. Click on "Map Index" or "Map Categories" to browse.

  • Asia:
    Ask Asia Maps

    Online maps of Asia and Asian countries; maps mainly show political boundaries, but there are also several thematic maps as well as timelines.
    The South China Sea
    "This website is part of the Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library . . . edited and maintained by David Rosenberg . . . hosted by Middlebury College." Focuses on South China Sea regional development, environment, and security issues. Some historical maps as well.

  • Africa:
    SULAIR: Africa South of the Sahara-Maps

    An excellent selection of links to current and historical maps of Africa.

  • Australia:
    Downloadable maps of Australia from Geoscience Australia (part of the Australian government).

  • Canada:
    National Atlas of Canada

    Maps that show the physical and cultural geography of Canada. The maps can be printed. Also includes some historical maps and downloadable GIS data.
    Toporama
    Displays Canada's National Topographic System (NTS) maps, which provide general-purpose topographic map coverage of Canada. The maps show data from the 1:250 000 and 1:50,000 National Topographic Databases.
    Maps showing the current state of the Canadian Cryosphere
    Snow, sea ice, lake ice, glaciers & ice caps, frozen ground and permafrost across Canada and its surrounding regions.
    Nova Scotia Geographic Information
    Topographic maps, base maps, and other reference maps and data for downloading. Some parts of the site require a free registration.

  • Interactive map of Ontario. Allows printing and downloading of data.

    GeoNative
    A Website dedicated to promoting knowledge about minority and native cultures and "little nations". The site is arranged by cultural or language group, and provides lists comparing place names both in the dominant language and in the vernacular, plus maps showing locations of group.

  • Great Britain:
    MAGIC
    : An interactive map site with static maps and downloadable GIS data for Great Britain.
    Great Britain Digital Atlas
    A detailed road atlas of Great Britain, from Multi Media Mapping. Search by place names, post codes, phone numbers, or grid reference. Also provides links to local tourist information.
    Soilscapes: Soils dataset for England and Wales.

  • Israel:
    Survey of Israel webpage (in Hebrew)
    Includes online topographic sets at 1:100,000, 1:200,000, 1:400,000 on the . Click on the desired scale to view the sheets.

  • Mexico:
    Georeferenced Population Data Sets

    For GIS of Mexican states, municipalities, and islands (1990) in Arc/Info export format. Attributes include selected demographic and socioeconomic variables. Files are available through ftp.

You can also view the Moon from the Earth, Sun, night side, above named formations on the lunar surface, or as a map showing day and night.
