Environment, general
  • CORRD: Colorado Renewable Resource Database
An interactive map of wind classes, transmission lines, and federal lands in Colorado. Click on "download maps" to download datasets, including wind speed. (Works best in Internet Explorer.)
  • EPA - Mapping Products
The Environmental Protection Agency provides several different mapping utilities which allow the user to generate custom maps either in a GIS interface or through a database search. Maps can be scaled from the whole U.S. to a community level, and can contain information about industry output, EPA-regulated facility sites, waste emission, toxins, water and air quality, and so on. Other map layers can be added, such as demographics, landmarks, roads, water, and political boundaries.
  • EPA -Biological Indicators of Watershed Health
"The presence, condition, and numbers of the types of fish, insects, algae, plants and other aquatic life can provide accurate information about the health of a specific waterbody such as a river, stream, lake, wetland, estuary or coral reef. "
  • Border EcoWeb
Provides environmental information for the U.S.-Mexican border region, including access to agencies and people working on the solutions to these environmental issues and basic environmental data for the transborder region.
  • Ecocart
International Environmental Databases for sale. Includes maps, books, and GIS information.
  • UNEP GRID-Arendal Maps and Graphics Library
From the United Nations Environment Programme's Global Resource Information Database. "This service is an on-going project to collect and catalogue all graphic products that have been prepared for publications and web-sites from the last 15 years in a wide range of themes related to environment and sustainable development." For more information about UNEP see: UNEP/GRID-Arendal.
  • USDA Geospatial Data Gateway
Downloadable natural resources and environmental data, searchable by geographic area or by theme.

Part of the U.S. Biological Resources Division's ATLSS project, this map can be customized to show Florida vegetation distribution by type.
  • Urban Ecosystem Analysis (UEA)

American Forests is assessing urban forests across the country, using satellite data, GIS, a through knowledge of urban ecology and the application of the science and engineering principals developed by experts to the Urban Ecosystem Analysis process.

  • USGS-NPS Vegetation Mapping Program
The US Geological Survey and National Park Service's ongoing project to classify and map the vegetation communities of US National Parks and have it available in a GIS ready format.
