Non-profit Collection Box Policy

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries will accept temporary placement by non-profit groups (student, staff, campus, or community organizations) of a collection box for donated goods ONLY WHEN approval is secured in advance via submission of the form below and when approved placement meets all criteria specified below. The Libraries cannot support the collection of cash or checks.


To place a collection box in Norlin or a branch library, you MUST apply to and receive approval from Deborah Fink, Programming and Communications Librarian (Deborah.Fink@colorado.edu).  Any boxes left without prior and explicit approval will be disposed of immediately.


Only one (1) collection box will be authorized at any given time. Approval is granted on a first-come, first-served basis, for one specified four-week maximum period, during a specified semester. Each authorization is for the specified semester and does not imply permission for any future time period or semester. Approval will be granted no more than once a semester to any group. An application must be submitted for any subsequent placement. Applications for branch library locations will be referred to that branch head for final approval.


A collection box must include a sign that clearly and neatly indicates the sponsoring organization and contact information, the purpose of the collection drive, and the collection box pick-up date. All signs and containers MUST be approved by Deborah Fink, Programming and Communications Librarian, and modifications may be required until signage and receptacles meet appropriate standards. It is the requestor’s responsibility to make an appointment with Deborah Fink prior to box placement in order to secure approval.


Collection boxes may be placed only where designated. 


Collection boxes are allowed in library locations for a maximum permit term of four (4) weeks.  The expiration date will be indicated on the applicant’s copy of the approved application form. It is the responsibility of the requesting party to remove the box on that date. If the collection box is not retrieved within five (5) business days following the expiration date, the box and all its contents will be disposed. No reminder or warning will be provided.

 

The University Libraries and its agents will not be held liable for loss, damage, or theft of the contents of the collection box or of the box itself.  The University Libraries reserves the right to dispose of the box and its contents if the box is not retrieved within the five (5) day grace period after the end of the four (4) weeks permit term. No reminder or warning will be provided.

Two (2) flyers announcing the drive may be posted in Norlin:
one each on the 2nd floor bulletin boards at the foot of the west stairs.
Flyers must have a date stamp from the Libraries Security office on the 2nd floor SW before posting.
