Library Research Tutorial
About this tutorial
The original version of this tutorial was designed specifically for the
freshman writing course (WRTG 1150) in the Program for Writing and Rhetoric
(PWR) at the University of Colorado at Boulder. A public version of that
tutorial was established in order to assist all patrons at UCB libraries.
The tutorial’s goal is to teach the concepts of scholarly vs. popular
sources, identifying keywords, searching a library catalog and an article
database, evaluating sources, and using information legally and ethically.
These goals are developed from the Association of College and Research
Libraries Information
Literacy standards.
Content of this tutorial was designed by Jennifer Knievel and Rebecca
Imamoto, with input from Keith Gresham, all of whom are currently members
of the Reference and Instructional Services Department in the University
of Colorado library. Earlier iterations of this information literacy instruction
were developed with assistance from Lori Arp, Joseph Yue, and Grace Xu.
Programming and technical aspects of the tutorial were created entirely
by Holley Long, who is a member of the library Systems Department. The
tutorial was created using ColdFusion programming and a MySQL database.
