About this tutorial This tutorial was designed specifically for the freshman writing course (WRTG 1150) in the Program for Writing and Rhetoric (PWR) at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The various modules are designed based on the goals, objectives, and timing of WRTG 1150. Modules are evaluated and modified based on student and instructor feedback. The tutorial’s goal is to teach students the concepts of scholarly vs. popular sources, identifying keywords, searching a library catalog and an article database, evaluating sources, and using information legally and ethically. These goals are developed from the ACRL Information Literacy standards. All quizzes except the Evaluation quiz are automatically graded by the tutorial. The Evaluation quiz is graded by library staff and grades are delivered to students via e-mail. These tutorials do not make up the entirety of the information literacy component of WRTG 1150. The tutorials are followed by an in-person, hands-on seminar with a librarian to teach more advanced research skills, and they are supported by a drop-in research help center available all semester to WRTG 1150 students, in conjunction with the PWR writing center. Content of this tutorial is was initially designed by Jennifer Knievel and Rebecca Imamoto, with input from Keith Gresham. Updated versions of the tutorial and content revisions have been performed by Caroline Sinkinson. Programming and technical aspects of the tutorial were created by Holley Long, who is a member of the library Systems Department. For more information, please contact Caroline Sinkinson. |
