Finding Journals at CU-Boulder
Access to journals is constantly changing. Some journals have both electronic and print access. Some have only print and some only electronic. Some journals end publication abruptly, such as TESOL Journal (Ceased Publication 2003).
Remote Access
Accessing electronic journals from off campus requires the download and installation of the VPN software on your computer. This software identifies you as a CU student allowing you to access databases and electronic content from any computer with the VPN software.

1. Search for the full text by
- using the Find it at CU link;
- search for journal title in the Find Journal/Serials link in Chinook; or
- use the Article Finder Form.
You will often see multiple title records for journals, one for the online and one for print.
Journal titles followed by [Electronic Resource] or (Online) will have access points for electronic content.
Journal titles for print subscriptions link to a page with specific information on print and microfilm volumes available and their locations.
- You can check out bound journals for one week.
- Some older bound issues might be located in PASCAL . Use the recall/hold button at the top of the page to request the item using your Identikey. The item usually arrives at the Norlin Circulation desk within 24 hours.
- You can also request electronic copies of articles in Pascal through Illiad.
- Other older issues will be on microfilm. Searching the title in Chinook should provide you with the current location of the microfilm. The Media Library has been disbanded. The Periodical room has microfilm viewing machines, which also make copies.
2. Use Interlibrary Loan's ILLiad
This online request service obtains articles not owned by the University Libraries. Visit Interlibrary Loan (ILL) for additional information.
