General Collection
Description
Books on all topics, with particular strength in sixteenth through twentieth-century English and American Literature. The General Collection (uncats) consists of recent purchases and gifts awaiting cataloging. Materials span the sixteenth through the twentieth centuries, mostly in Roman alphabet languages (plus a few Cyrillic items).
Status
Most of the collection is cataloged, but only a small portion of these catalog records have been converted to machine readable form.

Access
All items in the collection have cards in the Special Collections Main Entry File, except items that have been cataloged online. Items cataloged online do not have cards in the Main Entry or Subject File. Items acquired and cataloged in the last few years and completed transfers are in the online catalog. Uncataloged materials can be accessed through an accession file, arranged alphabetically by title, as well as through the Special Collections Main Entry File.

Dewey Serials Collection
Description
Periodicals with Dewey classification numbers that have been transferred to Special Collections from the Periodicals Room.
Status
Cataloged and in the online catalog.

Access
Items are represented in the Norlin and Special Collections shelflists, in the online catalog, and in the published serials list. Some are also in the Special Collections Main Entry File. There is no collection file.

Transfers
Description
Books that are in the process of being transferred into Special Collections from the Norlin stacks and the branch libraries. This is a temporary collection. When the transfer has been completed, the item is integrated into our holdings.

Reading Room Reference Collection
Description
Reference works for use by Special Collections staff and patrons, including dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, price guides, works on the history of books and printing, recent periodicals, catalogs, and locally produced guides.
Status
Cataloged and most records are online.
Arrangement
Partially arranged by Library of Congress classification number. It is divided into Reference (27 cm. and under) and Reference Oversize (over 27 cm.)
