ERM Minutes, March 5, 2008
Present: Paul, Erin, Linda, Candy, Sara, Yem, Meredith, Alison, Peggy, Chris

Adding CRL records to the Catalog (update)

Jina and Chris haven’t had time to look into the details of the availability of MARC records for CRL materials.

Paul and Candy have investigated the availability of records through Serials Solutions.  (The Digital South Asia Library (six titles) is the only CRL collection available through SS and it has been activated)

Resource records and the Online Library Resources scope (update)

Meredith/Jennifer have confirmed with John that we cannot collect statistics on the use of our scopes.

Peggy has worked with Chris Cronin and Gov Pubs staff to add 006s to Gov records.  Gov Pubs has developed a means of using the Electron Version limit rather than the scope in their web pages.   Peggy noted that we should learn more about how the scopes are actually being used and suggested usability testing.   Alison volunteered to take this request to the Web OPAC group.

Click to Access

Peggy noted inconsistent usage in our linking notes for resource records.  While the standard for connecting messages is Connect to Online Resource when you view a resource record in Chinook the top line reads: Click to Access.  Meredith agreed to update this message (and had already done so).  The related issue of the display of this type of message for e-books, maps, and serials that have had a coverage load done was then discussed.  For serials we have been using the following message:

Since serials come in packages the About this Resource message is more clearly about Science Direct or Business Source Complete.  For books there was some question about how patrons would interpret the About this Resource message.  Would they think it was about the database or about the book itself?  It was decided that we should all think about alternative displays and an alternative to About this Resource.  Paul agreed to look for some other models.

Article Finder

Sara noted that the terminology wasn't consistent in the links or description of the Article Finder form.  This form will be utilized more in the future as many Per Room items will be unavailable and a link to the form is being added to the records for items in the Per Room.  It was decided that we should change it across the board to: Article Finder. All usage of "Find it at CU" or "CU's" or "form" in conjunction with Article Finder will be removed.

Next meeting: Wednesday, April 2nd, at 1:00 in N410
