Information Commons Librarian, Buffalo State College (February 14, 2007)

 

E. H. Butler Library, Buffalo State College has the following two positions available:

 

Information Commons Librarian E. H. Butler Library

E. H. Butler Library, Buffalo State College seeks a dynamic, proactive, service-oriented reference librarian to be a key member of the Information Commons team. This position will assume a leadership role in all activities related to the improvement of student information management skills and the assessment of learning outcomes; will assume a major role in identifying and implementing emerging technologies and best practices; will provide training, instruction, and support in the effective use of online and electronic information tools and technologies. As part of the Information Commons team, this position will develop productive relationships with appropriate individuals and departments to advance the objectives and mission of the Information Commons. This position will also provide reference services, including teaching and training (some nights and weekends may be required), and will serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments. The successful candidate for this position will have faculty status and will be required to fulfill all requirements for tenure.

Essential Functions: Assume a leadership role in the improvement of student information management skills and the assessment of learning outcomes. This involves full participation in the library's instruction program including the development of online instruction and assessment modules for use within the college's course management system. Establish collaborative working relationships with individuals and departments in the library and on campus, who contribute to and enhance services of the Information Commons. Provide reference service, training, and teaching, including some nights and weekends. Act as a liaison to one or more academic departments. Work effectively in a diverse environment.

Required Qualifications: An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution; reference experience in an academic library; excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience; experience with ANGEL, HTML, WEB 2.0; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a team environment; virtual reference experience; commitment to continuing education and scholarly production.

Salary: Competitive. Persons selected for interviews for the position will be expected to make a 30-minute presentation to the library faculty and staff. The presentation should address a current topic in library studies.

Information Systems Librarian E. H. Butler Library

E. H. Butler Library, Buffalo State College seeks a dynamic, proactive, service-oriented Information Systems Librarian to assume a leadership role in the management, support, and administration of our library information systems and applications. This includes, but is not limited to, management of Ex Libris ALEPH (our library management system supporting online acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, and course reserves modules), interlibrary loan, and automated report generation for management purposes. As part of the Information Commons team, this position will be responsible for the establishment of productive relationships with appropriate individuals and departments to advance the objectives and mission of the Information Commons. This position participates in statewide discussions and decisions impacting the library's systems and will work to help further statewide automation efforts. This position will also provide reference services, including teaching and training (some nights and weekends may be required), and will serve as a liaison to one or more academic departments. The successful candidate for this position will have faculty status and will be required to fulfill all requirements for tenure.

Essential Functions: Assume a leadership role in the management, support, and administration of the library management system, Ex Libris ALEPH, and ILLiad, the library's interlibrary loan system. This work involves systems development, implementation, upgrade, and coordination; troubleshooting computer systems; applications support, training, and documentation preparation. Establish collaborative working relationships with individuals and departments in the library and on campus who contribute to and enhance services of the Information Commons. Help develop and support an applications support service for the campus community. Provide reference service, training, and teaching, including some nights and weekends. Act as a liaison to one or more academic departments. This position requires the ability to travel and the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.

Required Qualifications: An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution; evidence of involvement in a library automation project; experience with HTML and Excel, excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Academic library experience; experience with Ex Libris ALEPH library management system; experience with OCLC's ILLiad; UNIX experience, SQL experience; OpenURL experience; experience with file transfer protocols; commitment to continuing education and scholarly production; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a team environment.
