Services
The Technical Services Division is responsible for acquiring the materials that
go into the Libraries collections, for making them available through Chinook,
for preparing them for the shelves. Technical Services also maintains and updates
the Chinook database, and maintains and repairs library materials.
Acquisitions
Orders and pays for materials added to the collections. Accepts gifts
of materials for the collections.
Cataloging & Metadata Services
Describes the books, journals, videos, etc. added to the Libraries
collections so that they can be located through Chinook, and maintains
the Chinook database.
Preservation
Marks, binds, and repairs library materials.
Services
Technical Services exists primarily to provide services and support
to internal Libraries operations, although members of the division are
ready to provide information and advice on matters related to their work.
Because of its name, people often call Technical Services with questions
relating to technical support, automation, equipment, etc. The following
are some of the kinds of assistance often sought, that need to be directed
elsewhere:
